The MOW Muharraq Sewage Treatment BOT Project comprised the wastewater treatment plant with the capacity of 100,000㎥/d, two sludge incinerators, and sewer pipelines. As the lead developer, we executed the project for the entire EPC phase. The plant was completed successfully in April 2014, and we will be operating and maintaining it for 26 years. The sewage treatment plant in Tubli, Bahrain had been built 30 years ago, and had become overloaded due to the population increase in Bahrain. As a result, it could only treat a partial amount of the sewage, and the rest was discharged to Tubli Bay without treatment. This gave rise to environmental issues as the adjacent sea became polluted and started to give off a bad odor and caused complaints from the residents. Against this backdrop, the Bahrain government established the 2030 National Hygiene Service Comprehensive Plan based on meticulous research of the situation and future forecast and decided to launch the Muharraq Sewage Treatment Project as part of the plan. Recognized for our expertise in the water treatment area that we had developed over a long period of time, we were awarded with the project. We look forward to contributing to the environmental improvement in Bahrain by successfully operating the Muharraq Sewage Treatment Project, which is the first overseas Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) project for us, and we plan to continue building our presence in the overseas BOT market.
